Any Personal Characteristics or experiences that would cause you to possibly see things differently than the majority of people in the US?

Thinking back on your childhood and adolescence, can you remember a teacher teaching something that was particularly interesting and memorable to you? What was being taught? How was the teacher teaching it? Why do you think it was such an effective learning experience for you?

I had 4th and 5th grade teachers who gave the students some options for book report format. Every format included a written portion, but the teacher presented a number of options for the oral presentation component. The most popular format was the Edible Book Report. As part of our oral presentation for an Edible Book Report, we had to bring something to school that pertained to the book but contained something edible. The item could be something to be consumed by the entire class, or it could simply be an art project designed with edible parts. I remember reading a book about Harriet Tubman, and the edible portion of my book report I made a cake using frosting to draw a map of the Underground Railroad on top. For another book report, I read a book about pirates. I made a paper mache head of a pirate and attached it to a costume stuffed with newspapers. On the head, I used carrot shavings as his great red beard. I found Edible Book Reports a lot of fun. I saw them as creative challenges. The options were endless. The entire class enjoyed the presentations, too. The class seemed to listen more closely to the presentations, trying to guess what edible item the presenters had brought. (Of course, the teachers limited the number of reports to five per day because one can only consume so many Edible Book Reports.)
