BACKGROUND
Sex: Female
Ethnicity: Caucasian (strong Irish descendants with some Dutch, German and Swedish)
Born in: Northridge, CA
Parents born in: US
.....
Any time the teacher would say my name I felt a burst of positive energy run through my body. I
never really got in trouble through school, however I often would feel like I was invisible in the
classroom. So anytime my teachers would acknowledge me, I felt so important and special. One
time in particular, was when I was in the 3rd grade and my teacher called me up to the front of the
class and gave a 10 minute speech to the rest of the class on how responsible I was. The praise she
gave me that day changed me forever! I wasn't sure if she even know my name until she used me
as an example that day.
.....My 3rd grade teacher gave me a gift that I will never forget. She taught me to respect myself for the
person I was. When I usually felt like I just blended in with the rest of the students, she make me
feel like I had special and unique qualities. This sense of empowerment that I achieve gave me confidence in every area of my life. When
she acknowledged my gifts and shared them with the rest of the class, I gained self-confidence and a true sense of self! I hope that when
I'm a teacher I will instill my students' hearts with a sense of self-respect and confidence.
