One thing that may make me see the world differently is that I don't believe in God. The majority of people in the US believe in a God, go to a church or temple, pray and believe in heaven and hell. I hold many of the same values as religious people but I didn't learn than through religion. I learned them from my parents and through my education.

..... In 11th grade my US history teacher asked me to point to Cuba on a map. I was the closest one sitting to the map. I didn't have my contacts in that day and wouldn't dare to wear my old, think glasses. It took me awhile to figure out where everything was on the map. I had no idea what continent the blob on the page was supposed to be. The teacher then stopped me, went to the map and made fun of the way I was looking so close at it. I felt so stupid.

The teacher didn't bother to help me. He just wanted to make a joke of the whole thing.

As a teacher, I won't make fun of anything a student does. I will give assistance to a student struggling to find the answer.
