PREJUDICE-REDUCING
EXPERIENCE BACKGROUND I will always remember my favorite teacher, Mrs. Hoff. She would always go out of her way and provide my fourth grade classmates and myself with special activities and projects. There is one particular holiday that stands out in my memory. It was the day before Thanksgiving vacation and the whole class went on a field trip together. Our school was less than one mile from Mrs. Hoff's house, so we all walked together, anxiously anticipating our surprise. We arrived at Mrs. Hoff's house and she announced that we were going to have a Thanksgiving feast together. She had bought each of us our own game hen to stuff and cook ourselves. As we all sat down and ate the meal together, I can remember the warmth and comfort of my classmates and myself towards Mrs. Hoff. Mrs. Hoff made this field trip a wonderful learning experience for us all. She showed so much love and kindness with all her students, it made all of us so appreciative towards her as our teacher. When she opened up her home to us, a strong bond of trust was built. We felt that she respected us and liked us; it made us feel special. The last time I saw Mrs. Hoff was at my high school graduation. I had invited her, but did not think she would remember me, let alone show up. I was so thrilled to see her there once again supporting and encouraging me. I can't wait to send her one of my college graduation invitations. I know she will be proud. Even after all these years, the positive influence of Mrs. Hoff still impacts me. she has taught me so much. I can only hope that as a future educator, I will follow in her footsteps and be a strong, positive role model for all of my students to follow.
