PREJUDICE-REDUCING EXPERIENCE
Daphne

BACKGROUND
Sex: female
Ethnicity: Costa Rican/American with German Ancestry
Born in: National City, CA
Parents born in: Father - CA
Mother - Costa Rica

At the age of five, I began to run track with the city Parks and Recreation. I continued running until I was twelve years of age. During these years I won many gold medals and some silver. When I did lose a race, the winner was almost always an African-American. Other children told me that I would always lose to black people because they ran faster. I liked being a winner and became very jealous at African-Americans who beat me out of the race. I started to believe that maybe they all did run faster. My stereotype did not longer hold valid when I ran a race and won. I did compete against an African-American and found out that they weren't all as fast as me.
