PREJUDICE-REDUCING EXPERIENCE
Christine

BACKGROUND
Sex: female
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Born in: San Diego, CA
Parents born in: U.S.A.

Whenever I made a decision, my parents would make me explain my reasons in detail. I guess this made me more critical and open-minded.

In the 8th grade, I was involved in a cross-age tutoring program. I helped out in a kindergarten class every morning for an hour. We even got to go on two field trips with the class. The K. teacher let me read stories to the children. I helped the students make snacks and projects. I felt so gratified at being able to help them. This program helped me decide to become a teacher. The K. teacher encouraged me. she showed me how I could help the students better. Whenever I was evaluated I received a good grade with encouraging comments. My 8th grade teacher would ask us what we did in class and often had us write short papers about our experiences.
