PREJUDICE-ENFORCING
EXPERIENCE BACKGROUND
During my junior year in high school, my music instructor always made a point of telling me that I was doing something wrong in front of the entire band. He was a very strict man who tried to make an example out of me in order to scare the other band members into practicing and being good. I was always the scapegoat for things that went wrong. He often told me that he wished I'd just quit so he wouldn't have to deal with me any longer. By singling me out, the teacher belittled me in front of my peers. In doing so, it made me respect him very little. Because of this style of teaching, I still see him as the worst teacher I have ever had. I would advise teachers not to make examples out of certain individuals in a classroom. If there is a problem, take care of it privately with the individual(s).
