I probably see the world a bit differently because I was raised by a single Hispanic woman who couldn't speak and still can't speak English. Because of this, I was very secluded from mainstream America. Because we always lived in predominantly white neighborhood, we didn't make friends.

..... My high school sophomore year, I took a bookkeeping class that was already two weeks into the semester. The instructor was really helpful and motivated me to catch up with the class. As the end of the semester, I was given the ROP award for outstanding student. And because of this I got a part-time summer job.

The instructor was a key part in my motivation and always would demand high standards. I just wish I had had more instructors like her
