..... Thinking back to my 5th grade class, I remember a time when I felt so left out and ostracized by the class. Our class was competing against another 5th grade class in a softball tournament. We were in the final game, there were 2 outs, and a tie score. I was the third baseman and when I didn't catch the ball, the other team wound up getting three runs and winning the game. The class bad-mouthed me, avoided me, and made me feel horrible for losing the game. I never wanted to play in PE anymore, and I basically hated school for about a month.

My teacher didn't stop the class from talking bad to me. It made me feel like I let her down as well as the rest of the class. I didn't think that elementary school should be so competitive and I feel like my teacher shouldn't have allowed such bad attitudes.

I would suggest that PE not stress winning and losing. It makes students feel threatened and can lower a child's self-esteem. Competition should not be important at such a young age.
