Questions/Activities 1. What were the different types of teacher behaviors that had a positive impact on the students? Briefly describe them. 2. As you read Caring Teachers think of at least 3 or 4 more characteristics you would add to the list. Why do you consider each of the characteristics you added so important to successful teaching and learning? Now examine the list of Self-Esteem Builders . Choose 2 strategies you remember teachers using in your K-12 school experiences. Which strategies are they? Describe what you remember about the context/s within which each strategy was used. Oftentimes, when we think about ways to motivate students, we think of external, tangible rewards such as stickers, certificates, trophies, extra recess time, Friday "fun days", etc. Find one story above where this type of motivation was very important. Find one story where the motivation didn't come from any tangible object/reward, but rather from the words/actions of a teacher. What type's of motivation do you think are most powerful? Which have the most long-lasting, positive effect on students?
