Dear Visitor,
The purpose of this Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) website is to provide a comprehensive resource on the philosophy, methods and public policy issues in educating language minority students. My objective is to create an easily accessible link between university scholarship, K-12 educators and the general public to disseminate current information about pedagogically sound principles and practices in language education. My greater purpose is to ensure equal educational opportunities for linguistically and culturally diverse students in public schools. I believe that my perspective as an expert in bilingual cross-cultural education contributes to informed discussions of critical educational issues.

SDSU Teacher Education Students
I have designed this siteas a resource for students in teacher education courses at San Diego State University. Students registered in CLAD credential courses have access through the MoraModules to provide a review and supplement to the content of my courses. These instructional modules are linked by topics off the syllabi for my courses: PLC 915B Teaching in the Content Areas: English Language Development/SDAIE for Single Subject credential candidates. This site serves teacher candidates as an on-line textbook through numerous links to theoretical and research articles, model lesson plans and lesson planning websites.
I have provided a road map to a knowledge base and effective pedagogical practices for teachers of language and literacy who are preparing to teach language minority students and teachers who wish to enhance their teaching repertoire. This website also provides links for teacher education students to current media and on-line information and discussions of policy issues related to language minority student education.
Preparation for the RICA Exam
Teacher candidates who are preparing for the RICA examination can use this RICA Study Guide for links to review modules with information on issues involving reading and writing instruction for language minority students.
K-12 Teachers and Administrators
For K-12 administrators and teachers, this website provides access to instructional materials for enhancing program design and instructional practices for CLAD classrooms through reviews of principles and methods based on current research. For teacher educators and workshop presenters, these on-line materials are accessible through "smart classroom" technology for professional development activities to enhance pre-service and in-service teacher preparation.
Teacher Education Faculty
For my university colleagues and graduate students in education, I provide bibliographies of print resources on second-language reading and biliteracy, as well as a list of references on effective school practices for language minority students.
For the Community
For the community and general public, I provide analysis of legal and policy issues that affect the education of language minority and immigrant students. Among these I feature in-depth analysis of Proposition 227 in California. I have also provided a road map to the debate about bilingual education.
I provide my mission statement and academic background so that visitors can judge the philosophical perspective and level of expertise supporting my analysis and policy recommendations about controversial educational issues. I invite you to e-mail me, as many have done from around the world, with your questions and comments.
I hope that all visitors to my CLAD website will find the information and resources here valuable and relevant. Please explore the multiple features of this on-line resource and return for many future visits.
Sincerely,
Jill Kerper Mora, Ed.D.
