NORTH COUNTY TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM

The North County Teacher Preparation Program offers student teachers the opportunity to become effective teachers striving for excellence in applying the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. The North County Program offers a rich environment with quality master teachers, a diversity of children, and daily application of literacy and English Language Development strategies.

            Your time commitment to the program will be 7:20 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Monday evenings (for an on-campus EDTEC 470 Technology course) during the first semester and one evening (of each student's choice for an on-campus PLC 915A English Language Development course) during the second semester.

During eight weeks of each semester, you will take university classes from 9:00 to 4:00 every day, except one day a week when you will observe and assist your master teacher. On Monday evenings of the first semester, you will take the on-campus technology course (EDTEC 470). During the second semester, you will need to complete PLC 915A one evening per week on campus.

During the remaining weeks of each semester, you will student teach full time (7:20-4:00), attend an occasional university seminar, and complete the one-evening-per-week EDTEC 470 or PLC 915A.

Student teaching takes place in the centrally located Mira Mesa region of the San Diego Unified School District and in the Poway Unified School District.

Student teacher placements will be made early in the semester by the Team Leader.

Student teachers are given the opportunity to participate in the professional development programs at both districts along with their master teachers.
