EET File Naming Conventions
These are the conventions for naming files, folders and reference links. Please take care in reading the following, pulling everyone's articles into the EET depends on everyone doing their part. To contextualize these instructions, let's explain the conventions with an example.
Folder Structure
Here is a review of the folder/file structure we are using. All the elements of your article must be contained in a single folder.

Folder Names
Folders will be named according to content and limited to a total of 15 characters. For this example we will use an article named "Web Page Design: Layout Control." What would the name of the folder be for this title?
It wouldn't be a good idea to spell out all the words in this articles title so we will the abbreviated the first three letters: w(web) p(page) d(design). The abbreviation is followed by the word layout. You don't need to use abbreviations if you can fit your title into a reasonable size.
- incorporate topic word into folder name
- limit to 15 characters
- no spaces
- no underscores ie. (wpd_layout)
File Names
The only file names that are important as far as the conventions are concerned are our article file itself, and the frameset (or index) file that calls it. The article file must be named:
start.htm
Important: Do not modify the index.html file in any way or rename it. Simply include it in your folder.
Anchor Names (for APA references)
For those of you who are including APA style reference links in you articles you will need to use the following conventions. These anchor names will be used to hyperlink to a specific spot on the EET bibliography page.
Jones, M.G. (1995). Visuals for information access: a new philosophy for screen and interface design. In D.G. Beauchamp, R.A. Braden & R.E. Griffin, (Eds.). Imagery and visual literacy. Blackburg, VA: International Visual Literacy Association.
The anchor name for this article is:
JonesMG1995
The syntax is LastnameINITIALSYear. Notice that all punctuation and spaces have been removed.
Ok, now that we have our naming conventions figured out, how do we reference to the EET's bibliography page? The procedure to create an anchored hyperlink is almost the same as a normal one. The only difference is that we are not only hyperlinking to the bibliography page, but also to a specific reference on the page. This type of hyperlink is accomplished by adding your anchor name to the end of the hyperlink reference. The only syntax to remember is that you have to precede the anchor name with a # sign. See the example below. Trust me it is easier to do than to describe in words!
