Meet with your counselor to review your transcript and plan your coursework for 12th grade.

Make sure you authorize to have your scores released to the university—you make this designation at the time you take the test.

Do your best!  These 15 questions may save you from taking remediation coursework.

STEP 4: SENIOR REVIEW

12th Grade

Fall Semester

·        Meet with your counselor to review your final academic status and college selections.  Receive information about deadlines, support services, scholarships, etc.

·        Find out how to obtain your financial aid pin number.

·        Attend the district’s college fair in October 2007.

·        Review your personal statement for college applications and scholarships.

·        Review the scholarship application process and develop a scholarship packet.

·        Discuss your action plan to complete the community service requirement.

STEP 5: COLLEGE APPLICATION

12th Grade

October 1 through November 30

To apply:

CSU:  www.csumentor.edu

UC:    www.ucpathways.edu

Private: Contact school

Complete applications carefully.  Make sure you have your transcript, correct GPA and test scores from SAT/ACT.

Answer all questions required

● For California Universities, indicate the high school(s) attended by using pull down or prompt menus.

Record all “a-g” courses taken in the appropriate category including those you will complete in 12th grade.  IMPORTANT! Courses taken in senior year are considered as coursework In-Progress or Planned.

Record courses exactly as listed on transcript.  Your school follows a semester course pattern and provides you with a grade for each semester.  Use pull down menus to select courses, if possible.  Match courses listed with how they appear on your transcript.

● Include your SAT/ACT scores.

● Use an e-mail address that you check frequently.  Universities will use this as the vehicle to communicate with you.

● Authorize release of EAP (Early Assessment Program) results.  This is done when you take the CST exam.

The GPA utilized for admission is the one you report, so make sure it is accurate.  See your counselor to obtain your CSU GPA and UC GPA.  They are different from your college weighted GPA.

STEP 6: FINANCIAL AID

12th Grade

January 1 through March 2, 2008

File for financial aid online at  www.fafsa.ed.gov

  • Attend your school’s financial aid night to receive information to file the FAFSA.  File as early as possible.

  • Your parents can use last year’s income as an estimate if taxes have not been filed.

  • Make sure you obtain your pin and your parent’s pin numbers before January!

EPT—Only one attempt is allowed. Recommended date is May 2008.  (Note: Montgomery High School students who completed Rhetoric & Writing by Quarter 2 should test in January 2008.)

To fulfill Compact benchmarks, you must pass the ELM and EPT or satisfy equivalent requirements to demonstrate that you will not require academic remediation at SDSU.  The following are possible methods:

SAT--Achieve a score of 550 in the critical reasoning or math.

ACT--Achieve a score of 24 in English or 23 in math.

CST Augmented Tests (EAP)--achieving exempt scores.

AP Exams--Score a 3 in English or math

IB Exams--Score a 5 in English and math.

STEP 8: INTENT TO REGISTER

January through May 2008

● Colleges will mail admission letters along with financial aid packages directly to your home.  If you have not done so, visit colleges to help you decide which school will be best for you.

● Notify the school of your intent to enroll.

● Mail official transcript and remember to have your final transcript upon graduation mailed to the college as well.  Make these arrangements with the registrar at your site.

● Review housing options and apply when you submit your college application.

Congratulations!  You are on your way to becoming a college freshman.   Take advantage of all university orientation opportunities provided!  May your college journey bring you knowledge and memorable experiences to treasure for a lifetime.
