10th Grade Campus
Visit to SDSU
The
Sweetwater Union High School District buses 10th grade students
determined to be “on-track” to SDSU in groups of
120 for a full school day
of academic and admissions information and transcript review.
SDSU staff presents students with a
comprehensive pre-orientation to the university and
SDSU students lead
visitors on a campus tour. Students will
also have the opportunity to review their transcripts and visit a computer lab
to begin their college application on CSUMentor.
Goals of the 10th Grade Visit Program
●Rewarding students
for their continued academic success and
participation in the Compact for Success
●Informing students
about the opportunities and challenges of university study,
including the importance of academic readiness without the need
for remediation as college freshmen.
●Introducing
students to campus academic departments and programs, student
support services including EOP, athletic and cultural
opportunities.
●Reinforcing and
affirming educational plans to ensure that students complete the
sequence of subject area requirements (“A-G” courses) for both
admission and academic preparedness.
●Guiding students
in beginning their CSU application on
www.CSUMentor.edu.
●Connecting
students with SDSU faculty, staff, and students in order to
increase their comfort in visiting and attending the University.
Who can participate?
The top 240 Compact
for Success students with a 2.5 GPA or higher from each school
are selected to visit SDSU based on their grade point averages.
Schools send 60 students per day for four days to ensure that
each student receives individual assistance during the afternoon
session.
Students are
supervised by their high school counselors, two SDSU students
and a counselor hired by Sweetwater to run this series of
visits, usually resulting in at least a 3:20 adult to student
ratio.
