The
Compact Advisor Program has been in place in the Sweetwater
Union High School District since 2002. Currently there is a
Compact Advisor who is a SDSU student in each of the middle
schools who is highly knowledgeable of the Compact for
Success’ expectations as well as what it takes to succeed at
San Diego State University (SDSU).During the 2007/2008 academic year the Compact
Advisors made a total of 5,322 student contacts at the
middle schools.
Compact Advisors meet with students on a one to one
individual basis, or in small groups throughout the school
day. They
provide information to students
regarding Compact for Success
benchmarks, “a-g” high school requirements,
community college, CSU/UC,
and private
postsecondary entrance requirements,
financial aid, scholarships, SAT/ACT, ELM/EPT and other information that will
help them accomplish their goal of higher education.
Through their contacts with students, Advisor’s refer
students to tutoring programs and other after-school
academic support activities.
The Compact Advisors serve as peer advisors to keep
students motivated to stay focused on their new goal, of an
attainable, affordable and successful future as a college
student.
The Compact Advisors also play a crucial role in other
Compact for Success Signature Activities, such as the
Compact for Success 7th Grade Campus Visit to
SDSU and the middle schools’ annual College: Making it
Happen Nights.
