The Department of Child and Family Development, in partnership with Family Health Centers of San Diego and First 5 San Diego, is offering FREE parenting workshops.  Theses workshops are targeted to parents and childcare providers for ages 0-5.  All workshops are offered in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Somalian, and free childcare is available!  All parents of the San Diego community are welcome to attend!

Child Care Sites:  We are always looking for new sites to hold workshops at, so if you are a child care or child development center and you are interested in hosting a 4-week or 10-week series of workshops, please contact us!  We provide workshops in Central and East regions of San Diego.

Parents:  Do you have a group of peer parents who might be interested in hosting a series of workshops? Looking for more information about how to understand your child's behavior and development?  Our department offers workshops to private groups of parents! If you are interested in hosting your own group of workshops for you and your friends, please contact us!

  1. Parent Education, Support, and Empowerment:  Four one-hour classes featuring the topics of:

    1. Health and Development

    2. Learning and Play

    3. Family and Social Emotional Development

    4. Community and Parents as Advocates

    • Although we do encourage you to register in advance, walk-ins are welcome also!  Registration forms can be downloaded by clicking here ( English / Spanish  ) and can be emailed to EarlyChildhood@mail.sdsu.edu or you may bring the form with you to the workshop.

    • If you will be needing childcare, please notify us in advance of workshop attendance.

    • You are invited to attend all four workshops of the series, or you can just attend a few classes!

  2. Social Emotional and Behavior Regulation Instruction:  Ten two-hour weekly classes featuring the topics of:

    1. Understanding Development and Temperament

    2. Developing Body Control and a Positive Body Image

    3. Developing a Secure Attachment

    4. Encouraging Play and Imagination

    5. Encouraging Language and Communication

    6. Laying a Foundation for Positive Self-Esteem

    7. Encouraging Self-Regulation, Morality, and a Sense of Conscience

    8. Encouraging Emotion Regulation

    9. Encouraging Concentration, Planning, and Problem Solving

    10. Encouraging Social Competence, Empathy, and Caring Behaviors
