M.A. with an emphasis in autism

In the news: SDSU Autism Work Hailed

The Department of Special Education at San Diego State University offers a MA degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism. This masters degree embeds an approved course sequence for the BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) and an approved BACB supervised practicum experience. The MA degree also embeds most of the Level II coursework for the Moderate/Severe and Early Childhood credentials in California.

The course sequence varies slightly based on the age focus of the MA candidate in the Autism program. Find out more...

Admission requirements for the M.A with an emphasis in Autism are the same as for other MA programs in the department, with the added pre-requisite course of SPED 553: Behavioral Strategies and Support.  The GRE is a requirement for ALL SPED MA programs, with a minimum combined score of 950 preferred. NOTE: Applications received by February 1st will be given priority for admission. No applications will be accepted or reviewed after April 1st.

GRANT SUPPORT FOR AUTISM MASTERS
Currently the Department of Special Education has an OSEP (Office of Special Education Programs) Personnel Preparation grant to prepare masters level teachers in the area of autism. One grant is to support educators in the Autism MA program who work with secondary or transition age youth on the autism spectrum. MA candidates that receive grant funding will have their tuition covered for the duration of the MA program, in addition to support for books and some professional travel. There is a two year service commitment working with youth with autism for each year of grant support received. However, because it is a Federal grant, the service can be done throughout the United States.

ALL perspective students who are interested in receiving Grant Support need to be interviewed. For additional information contact the relevant faculty below:
